Ben Nevis is not some wee hill.
It is a mountain, dangerous even in summer when the clouds descent quickly (as they do). But in winter, Ben Nevis is a VERY DANGEROUS mountain that deserves much respect.
Yet, each winter there are always some idiots who come to Fort William and think that they can simply "walk" up Ben Nevis. Some are lucky and survive to tell the tale. Many do not. Each year the local news media report still more deaths on Ben Nevis. And, it must be said, most of these idiots are from England who think nothing of the consequences of their stupidity. Just who do they think will have to risk their own lives to save them? The local Mountain Rescue Team, that is who!
As for snow - well it can fall from anytime now and then lay until March or April. (When I was living in Glasgow in the late 1970s, it once snowed in July!) As it turns out, snow is forecast for some parts of the Western Highlands this weekend.
Since some English banknotes are easily forged (especially the higher valued ones), many businesses do refuse to accept them. You would be well advised to go into a Scottish bank and exchange your English notes for the local currency - the commission charges are very reasonable for our English neighbours.
