Have you looked at photographs of Europe after the WW II ? Some areas look very much like that

A beautiful country, now barren by comuism, dictatorship fear, hatred and disaster . Cuba was a prosperous country before fidel, even for the average citizen without any links to Batista

fidel came and ruined everything.

By the way, people from Mexico want to go to the USA. Reason: poverty
Haiti: poverty
Dominican republic : poverty
Etc, etc, etc, poverty

Cuba: poverty, political oppression. Cuba has the second place in the world in violation of human right and political prisoners ( something that a bunch of someones will deny )

NOTE: Besides aspirin and children books ( that really makes us look like people from the subsahara zone ) , take them a little bit of FREEDOM

I knew that somebody would deny it !
Congratulations, pepe. You won an extra pound of butter for your effort spreading the message.
By the way, comunism already fell in Europe, if you didn't know

Second NOTE:
Thank you for correcting me. It looks like the source I used was not totally clear. In Freedom House they say that Cuba is in the SECOND worse GROUP of countries with no human rights. Sorry for the slight mistake. Now I know

    That depends
For the tourists, a paradise. The government desperately needs the money and to keep a good image o the world

For the Cubans, a torture. People desperately try to escape from Cuba, even with home made boats or rafts. Nobody knows how many have died trying

Ah, the non Cubans ( or at least, that's what they say ) know it all. Right.
The whole world is trying to escape from their countries, but the only ones with a comunist regime is CUBA.
    Need to go on ?
Cuba is a comunist dictatorship, if you didn't know

In fact, I live in Cuba - Havana to be exact, and have visited many other parts of the country.

Where in Cuba are you going ?

Cuba has lots of great beaches, but also a lot more - countryside and cities. And the Cuban people are very friendly and welcoming.

March is a great time to visit - the weather is really good then.

(And yes, many Cubans are trying to leave - which is also true about Haiti, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Mexico etc. - but many more Cubans don't want to leave their country.)

Cuba second worst ? On what basis ? According to Freedom House (no friends of Cuba), there are at least 8 countries worse than Cuba - Burma
    Equatorial Guinea
    Libya
    North Korea
    Somalia
    Sudan
    Turkmenistan
    Uzbekistan

and 8 more which get the same score as Cuba
    Belarus
    Chad
    China
    Eritrea
    Laos
    Saudi Arabia
    Syria
    Zimbabwe

I've been there several times. It is enchanting -- full of old colonial buildings, which are in fact rotting from neglect, and very old cars. The people are cheerful and smiling, but have a hard time. If you are going to a resort, you will be well looked after, but if you are fending for yourselves, you would be best advised to eat at a paladar -- a private home where good meals are served. Ask around for some nearby paladares and book in advance. Our experience of restaurants has been disappointing. The national dish is a ham and cheese sandwich! You will have an enjoyable experience, but it will probably be different from previous travel experiences, as this is not at present a tourist country. You are avoiding the rainy season, but be prepared for hot weather and take your sunscreen -- it is quite difficult to buy things like that locally. Perhaps these links will help give some idea.

i can assure you it is gonna be a little bit different from your life here. everything there is old, all the buildings&cars, which is kinda cool because you get to see for yourself how the life was in colonial times. there are plenty of beaches&wonderful weather. and if you are going to stay in a hotel, you wont have to worry about much except for hurricanes, lol. and mosquitoes. the people there are pretty cheerful, considering how hard is the life there. you are going to find the streets pretty crowded, since having a car in cuba is not something anyone can accomplish. you may have to travel on cars rented by yourself, since there are no taxis (except for people who use their cars for that specific purpose) or you would have to go on carretones, which can be described as wagons carried by horses, or bicitaxis; which is these guys on bycicles with seats in the back (by the way, those are faster than carretones lol). THERE IS NO INTERNET, except maybe for some restaurants, where you gotta pay for it &state offices. there are not a lot of computers, and you can consider yourself lucky if you find a mac. lol. the stores are super super small compared to the ones here, and there isn't a lot of stuff in there, btw. there is plenty of artisans, specially in the cities. i would like to tell you more, because it brings me memories from my beloved home but understand that i see things from a different point of view.

I am contemplating to go there before years end. Been there before 8 years ago.
The beaches are excellent. The resorts are as good as anywhere - otherwise they couldn't get anyone to go there. Go with 4 stars or more. The people are super - unfortunately they have to live under communism Jo Stalin style. Bring aspirin and childrens colouring books for tips.
It is safe to go sightseeing . I was a little bored .

Been back about 2 weeks from my last trip everything that people point to Cuba and say is bad I've found in other countries. I live in Canada and the highway (417) going to the capital city is in worse condition than some roads in Cuba. You will see a blend of old and new some of which won't be in the greatest condition. But one must remember that the lowest temperature recorded in Cuba is 0 deg C and the temperature swing there is at most 10 to 20 deg C. Whilst in my part of Canada the temperature swing is 70 deg C from -35 to +35 deg C so building have to be more robust.

I won't sugar coat it Cuba is a poor country but walking around in the streets I don't see any pan handlers and beggars that I see here, in America and in the UK. Cuba is the one place in the Caribbean that I like to go back to. The people are nice, the resort staff is paid to be nice but the people in general mind their own business, the country side is beautiful, the weather is great and lastly there are NO Americans. However some Canadians and Brits are making up for the lack of rude Americans.

Bring your sunscreen, a face mask and snorkel, a beach towel, MP3 player with some tunes and have a good time. BTW I recommend the seafari trip to Cayo Blanco

have a good trip and safe home

No need to repeat what it has been appropriately described, but I will say that some people overlooked the answers describing the reality

"I don't see any panhandlers and beggars ", but no commentaries about the human rights. It seems that certain people jump over that or close their eyes, despite saying that they don't sugar coat it
