Travelling Manchester airport (UK) to Orlando with a 1 year old?

I am travelling with Virgin and need some advice from anyone who has done the same trip and can give me any tips or pointers. I think I am ok for formula going as you can pre-order pre-packed formula to pick up from Boots when through security....but what about when I am coming home and in Orlando airport. I intended to use the pre-packed stuff then I dont have to mess about with cooled boiled water and the powder. Security ask you to taste the milk but I can't do that as once the pack is open it is deemed unsafe for the baby after 2 hours. So as I say the outbound journey we are ok but coming home??? Any other tips would be great :o))

I can sympathize with you, I have done quite a bit of traveling with my child who is now 18 months old. For your formula question, take pre-packaged formula and all that you need for the flight. When you get to security, have the formula easily accessible because they will remove it from the bag and do a special inspection on it (you will not have to open the packaging and they will NOT ask you to taste the milk).

Other tips. Try to feed the baby during takeoff and landing, this will help their ears adjust easier. Bring a new toy on board with you to distract the baby and save it until midway through the flight. This may buy you a few minutes of peace. Most important advice I can give you is relax. When you are on board if you get tense the baby will feel it and be more likely to cry. This can become a very viscous cycle, trust me I know. When your baby cries don't get upset, do your best to keep your composure. I like an aisle seat to be able to get up and stroll during cruise flight. Finally if you can bring your own car seat then do. Most car rental places are notorious for having poorly maintained seats for rent.

I hope you enjoy your visit to America.
