Apparently it is true that there are more UK people here now (I heard a figure quoted from the last census of 300,000?) than any other nationality, say American, Polish or Latvian.

Which ireland?..ROI or NI?..the demographics are presented differently..In NI abt 5% of the 1.6M population were born in other parts of the UK (not same as 'Britain')...and not all of them would be white caucasian.In the ROI about 2.7% of 4M population are from other parts of the UK but their ethnicity is not separately available. Due to the proximity of Ireland and the succesive 'conquests and invasions from the UK mainland since the time of Edward I and after it is hardly surprising that the largest non-indigenous Irish cohort is UK in origin.

It would be interesting to see a breakdown of the ethnic backgrounds actually but the British immigrating to the Republic of Ireland has less to do with previous invasions & probably a great deal more to do with some of them having Irish backgrounds already or accompanying Irish spouses and even the odd Irish person giving their birth place as the UK. Some folk just up & move here because they like the place.
