Anyone ever had a broken steering lock on a scooter?

Some bugger just decided that they didn't like my scooter taking up a parking space, so they broke the steering lock and dumped it. Does anyone know if these are expensive/difficult to fix?

Bike is an MBK Thunder 125.

Thanks

I agree with most other comments but...... The insuance company may take a different line if your scooter was stolen and did not have a steering lock functioning. Fit a new lock and buy a Thatcham chain available from most bike shops.

It would be a lot cheaper to buy a cable lock. That way you have something to swing at the A hole if you catch him messing with your ride.

Easy to fix, even easier to break. Don't bother fixing it, buy a large chain instead. It's a much better thief deterent.

Breaking them is so simple they should never be used or even fitted, breaking the lock can sometimes cause damage to the headstock or bars. If you have any doubts, have a mechanic check over the front-end.

Buy yourself a Thatcham-approved lock – it should reduce your insurance premium – you can use a disc lock when you are out and about, for overnight security the best option is chained to a lamp-post.
