Whats your opinion on Liverpool, England?

For my Diploma I need to do research into peoples thoughts and opinions of Liverpool, England. I currently live in Liverpool. I need opinions of people from Liverpool and from other places around the UK, or the world. So if you could tell me any thoughts you have about Liverpool and where your from, I would be very grateful :) Both positive and negative comments are welcome! Thanks!

On a joking note, whenever I drive into Liverpool, whoever is with me will say "time to wind up the windows."

On a serious note, it's a nice place. I love the boats and the art places on the front, I love ths shopping and the buildings.

I didn't agree with the whole "Capital of Culture" thing because there are many more places which are far more immersed in culture than Liverpool. From what I saw of it, it got the title and THEN added all the extra culture to bring in the tourists.

It seems to me that Liverpool is on the news pretty much all the time. I'm always hearing about people being shot in pubs, of a "gang of youths" (come on, lets call them what they are - chavs!) beating someone to death. It's always Merseyside this, Merseyside that.

Fact - Liverpool is mentioned in a negative way on the news more than any other place in the North West, and will be mentioned at least once a week, without fail. This is probably one of the main reasons a lot of people have their minds already made up about the place without ever going. You can't escape the bad press and Liverpool have loads of it.

I am a Dorset boy living in Scotland. I have never been to Liverpool. I am a baby boomer so I grew up with the Liverpool sound and Radio 1. I love sport especially football. As a teenager I watched the Liver Birds for the legs and short skirts of the birds. I was a fan of Jimmy Tarbuck and I empathised with his sense of humour, self deprecating, sarcastic and very observant of life. He coloured my view of scousers until I met them in the Army. As a 'breed' they are very much in the Tarbuck tradition. They are very funny and very resilient. Liverpool has seen the good times and the bad. Derek Hatton was a typical political scouser, he drove the city into the ground. Very left wing. Very militant. A product of his native city. I think Everton are a team that consistently punches above its weight. on the other hand, LFC are underachievers, given their history and resources.

A lot of bad press and preconceived ideas before anyone ever goes there but just like any other city really. Good places and bad places that should be avoided. The people are the main selling point though for me, Always very friendly when I've been to see my friend who's at Uni there

I live in South East England and strongly dislike Liverpool. I think its ugly, too obsessed with football
and has a crass and uncultured atmosphere. I can also understand that many, particularly young people love it for all the reasons I hate it

I have lived in the USA for 30 years, went back in April after 15 years, I was very impressed. People were friendly and helpful with directions. They have a negative stereotype from years ago that still persists in jokes about the crime even though it ranks low on the scale compared to other major cities (you can see from the comments on here, rather than not say anything people will repeat the same old negative things)

I'm from Manchester, so there is a lot of rivalry between Liverpool and us. We're only 40 miles apart, and so it causes a lot of ill feeling.

    The classic Manc joke is
Q: why does the Mersey run through Liverpool?
    A. Because if it walked it'd get mugged.

I nearly went to Liverpool for Uni, but I didn't really like the city. I thought it was too small and I couldn't see anything other than high street shops. The advantage to me was that it was an easy commute to my mum at the weekend.

EErm....well Liverpool is a lively city lots of good natured people with a really sharp sense of humour some terrific pubs and clubs, lots of open park land nice plce to live, mainly, there are one or two places one would not like to be seen dead in, like Goodison Park, and Anfield unless it`s Grand National Day of course, The refurbished docklands have brightened up the whole city...they used to be awful, but now great and the road out of Liverpool is the best bit about the place,`cos it goes all the way to Yorkshire...God`s county......Dark Satanic mills and all that!
