Irelands shame the catholic church..?

how can anyone support such acorrupt business anymore in todays day and age. with the way the structure of the church works. with what it means on the wider scale.

do you feel the catholic church is the worst thing to happen to this islands people in hundreds of years/ever. taking into account how the pope ordered english kings to invade in the name of god because trhe irish were 'barbaric heatens' at the time. and how it suppresses anything normal and natural to the human.

Completely Irelands biggest shame. No words can say how disgusted and devastated people are.

Its made front page news all over the world thankfully they are exposed and hopefully will lead to the investigation in other parishes and countries aswel.

Joe its mainly about the fact that there was extreme systematic cover up and abuse about the devastating abuse underhand where noone could see and certainly not a catholic congregation.

Ireland's shame is that it continues to elect a fianna fail government whose litany of abuses INCLUDE cover up and deferential treatment to "the select few" ( in this case, and sickenly, paedophiles in the Catholic Church) ....

That's religion for you, hypocrisy and an outdated belief system.

Like most religions, the belief system isn't wrong. The problems caused within any given church stem from man made rules and the corruption that power brings.

The 'barbaric heathens' that you mention were in fact christians! Their priest and monks could marry, in fact were expected to, else how could the understand the problems that normal people have?
The Book of Kells is almost all that's left of those days.
The Irish government care so little about their own country that they are allowing a motorway through Tara!

Never heard of the Pope ordering the English to invade Ireland. Stop making things up.

I'm very happy being a Catholic. You do hear about certain priests doing terrible things, but its just unfair to judge an entire organisation on the actions of a few.

it is Irelands shame. If i were a catholic or any religion id question my morals.

I hope people remember religion is man made.

I do think The arrival of christianity caused alot of problems the picture the christians later reported of a violent society are now thought to be heavily exagerated. infact the ancient peoples cared alot for their children and old people whereas in Rome at the same time many children and old people were dumped as they werent strong or useful for the power of the growing empire - which carried on with christianity.

I have morals so dont support it at all.

Oh, totally. The abuse is terrible. The way that people took advantage of the weak and the vulnerable is terrible. Completely corrupt.

Unfortunately it's not just the Catholic church is not the only organisation to do that kind of thing.

Joe, it's true - Pope Adrian did let the English king invade Ireland as penance for having Cardinal Thomas A Becket killed. Plus he didn't like the way the Irish had developed their own version of Christianity, and wanted a feudal system in Ireland to replace the older Brehon system.

I second Joe on this one.

I see your point, and those who offended deserve to be punished, but it's like judging an entire race of people based on meeting a certain number of people from that race. And you can't do that in today's world.

If I get a rake of thumbs down for this answer, then so be it.

But I'm standing up for what I believe in.

It is soo disgusting the way they preyed on the innocent and vunerable. The priest that baptised me turned out to be a paedophile.. i got reaally creeped out when i heard :-S
The people that covered up cases aswell were just as bad, some nuns, even guards had suspicians of what was going on but they kept their heads down!
I do feel sorry for those priests that haven't done anything and some people tar them all with the same brush.
I don't think there is a fault in the catholic belief system, its nothing to do with the religion nor do i think it has anything to do with priests being celibate.
All the people involved directly in the abuses or indirectly should be named and shamed and forced to resign.

I just think its a shame that some priests died and got away with the whole thing.

More broadly: Religion and spirituality are the worse things that permeate the human race. (Followed closely behind by politics, though IMHO there's no difference.)
