I suppose it depends on what you're looking for.

For night life, culture and shopping Glasgow is certainly the best (also the biggest) city.

For history and well paid jobs Edinburgh is the best.

Aberdeen has a lot of well paid jobs if you're in the right industry but it's more remote.

The best CITY is without doubt Edinburgh. It is one of the best cities to live in, in the world.

The worst. No city in Scotland is that bad. Glasgow has a crime problem but the council and the police have a lot to answer for. For example I know as a fact that the police used to stop kids from Drumchapel from going to Bearsden up the hill and that people from the Gorbals were forced to join the Glasgow overspill plan. (That is they were sent to wee market towns away from friends and roots.)
Others were rehoused in Easterhouse. An area with no infrastructure. And to think kids sent to Australia got an apology!
OK. Glasgow is the worst if you do not live in a good area. The good areas are better than good. the quality of life is exceptional. The poor, however, rot.

    Dundee is grim.
Aberdeen. I love it. But I like wee toons.
Stirling is OK especially if you live in Kings Park or Bridge of Allan. Raploch is Glasgow overspill.
Inverness is boring and ...................I can't think of much else.

P.s. Not in any order Carrie has them in the correct order.

    Been to them all.

Glasgow, without a doubt. Great people, great nightlife, great shopping, awful weather.

Given that there's only 6 cities in Scotland I'll rate them from best to worst (in my experience)

Edinburgh (affluent, nice people, beautiful buildings)
Aberdeen (affluent, plenty of oil jobs, nice scenery)
Inverness (countryside, nice people and castles)
Stirling (nice-ish place, castle and safari park are nice)
Glasgow (like any big city in UK)
    Dundee (grim)

All of Scotland's 6 cities have good and bad points. Personally I'd rank them in this order:

1 Edinburgh + culture and architecture - cold wind and snooty inhabitants
2 Glasgow + culture and people - rain and crime
3 Dundee + people and seaside location - social problems and unemployment
4 Aberdeen + oil wealth & surrounding countryside - isolation and crime
5 Stirling + beautiful old town/castle - central belt socal problems
6 Inverness + great surroundings & pretty by river - very small and isolated

Only six Cities ???? Don't think so Carrie !!! What about Dunblane , Elgin , Dunkeld , Fortrose , Dornoch , Millport, Oban , Perth ,Inverness and Brechin - all are cities 'cause they have Cathedrals . Cities are not deemed so because of size but on an ecclesiastical basis .Now we have sorted that one out get down to business . Must plump for Millport ( Cathedral of the Isles ) followed by Dunkeld and then Inverness . Quality of life , people , and location . Worst ?? Personal feelings but would not choose Dundee to live in ( people lovely - town /city somewhat soul less ) - Glasgow ( again too large and lost much of its Victorian charm ) - Aberdeen ( too cold and sprawling ) .

Being a country lad - am biased but lets keep the discussion unbiased and factual !!!

None of them..I hate cities - although Glasgow is great for the shopping.
A bit puzzled by CFB's answer though - show me a city anywhere in the U.K. never mind Scotland, that DOESNT have council estates!!!!!
