Do i need to stay the whole 2 years in AUstralia to get permanent residency?

i have come to Australia 3 months ago as my husband is a permanent resident here. i have the provisional visa subclass 309. its more than a year since i lodged the application. now if i get out of australia will it still be counted within the waiting period to get the permanent residency?

Your 2 years is taken from when you applied for your visa. You can travel on your temporary visa and the time away will still be counted in the 2 years and you can be onshore or offshore when your permanent visa is granted, though DIAC will need to know where you are.

NOTE though, that the grant of your permanent visa is not automatic and you must still be in your married relationship for it to be granted. If you have travelled overseas for an extended time without your husband, that is going to be very difficult indeed to prove and you run a very real risk of being denied.
