Went to the Dominicans earlier in the year.....yeah, we had a great holiday, and it can be very relaxing....but steer clear of the Grand Flamenco hotel in Punta Cana!! Here they have their very own ''timeshare'' block, which, although they were only supposed to be allowed to approach you once, the reps were an absolute nightmare, constantly trying to flog you these overpriced apartments, which are just situated within the hotel grounds!! I saw a lot of people just give in, and have to waste an entire morning of their holiday being bombarded with hard-sell techniques!....We told them so many times that we live in Cyprus, and a trip to the Dominicans was a one-off experience because of the rigmarole with flights etc....but they just wouldn't give in!! most days, we esacped to the hotel next door for real rest and relaxation!
Also, they seem to aim themselves mainly at the Americans who readily flash cash for tips at all of the waiters! If you do decide to go there, be sure you take a mix of Dollars, and also Dominican Pesos!! You will find they are so ready to sell stuff to you at inflated prices in Dollars, when in actual fact, the same things cost pennies in Pesos!! My son bought some cigarettes, and a packet of crisps, which came to 12 dollars.....almost £10, at the time due to the exchange rate, but when he bought the same things a few days later, and paid in :Pesos, it actually cost him a little over £3.00!!
Cancun, and Cuba are brilliant!!
