If you don't do something stupid you should be okay. I would avoid some of the provinces like the southern island of Mindanao and the Sulu Archipelago which are of particular concern.

Now is the time to plan on how you will handle your money. Will you be using a debit card and getting cash from ATM's? Or, will you be carrying thousands of pounds so you make yourself a big target for thieves? Will you be staying in cheap hostels or hotels with private rooms? How much can you afford per night for a room?

You must also figure out on how to actually stay in the Philippines because from the UK you get 21 days free at the airport. You just can't show up and stay as long as you want! Make sure your passport is current and has at least 6 months remaining before you leave the Philippines.

You can get some other advice from these travel forums:

Some girls will come up to you because you are a rich foreigner overseas and they would like to separate you from your money! Otherwise you will meet some nice people who only care for you and not your money - perhaps only for a short while though!

Is this your first time visiting Asia? Have you been to India or Thailand previously?

Good luck.

If you stay out of the bars & night life ie. drinking. you should be OK as long as you stay away from Mindanao or the larger cities. Go to your church or any church here to meet the people. Be polite always. Say Good Morning, afternoon or evening. The word for thank you is Salamat (with long a pronounced ahh). You will always find somebody that can speak English.
    Enjoy

Be sure to renew your 21 day visa before 20 days are up. You go to any Philippine Bureau of Immigration, take a friend, your Passport (with a copy of the info page & your entry page), a friend, your airplane ticket & about 5,000 pesos Do this every 59 days thereafter.

You'll enjoy it better if you have company. Most of our countrymen are friendly and respectful but as in any poor country, there are also many opportunists so always be on the look out for pickpockets and crooks.

    1. Avoid late night outing or very early morning outing
    2. be cautious of people (the filipino people are very friendly people, so you will not know who to believe)
    3. if you know a local that you can trust, that will be good
    4. From manila airport to a hotel eg. , advisable to take taxi from the airport so you will not be conned on the taxi charge
    5. safe also if you take the bus or the jeepney, the locals will always be very willing to guide you on the fare and route
    6. overall, it is safe

Yes it is. The people, mostly, are welcoming but I'm just warning you... oh wait, you're a guy! nvm, because girls walking alone in the Philippines that are 12-18 are the most likely to be kidnapped/raped. But you're a guy. Just don't carry anything expensive or even expensive looking around, and girls, might just look at you if they're interested and like, smile and stuff, but there's a small chance they'll come up to you. Out of all the people in the Philippines, you might be the least likely to be unsafe. Just follow the tips i gave you, and you will be find. The expensvie stuff carying thing. What city/town? Or island?

I'm from there and lived there.... depends what city you're going to.
