Train. Brighton to London Victoria. Tube Victoria to Euston (Victoria Line), Virgin Trains Euston to Lockerbie. Book as far in advance as possible for the lowest fares. Southern have single fares Brighton to Victoria from £3 www.southernrailway.com www.virgintrains.co.uk
Do you have a Family Railcard - gives you a 34% discount - more for the kids

Lockerbie has a well developed transport network for a town its size. It lies next to the A74(M) motorway and has a railway station on the main Glasgow–London West Coast Main Line. Lockerbie's town hall is its most imposing building and is an excellent example of Scottish baronial style, built in the typical local red sandstone. The building looks over a war memorial built after the Second World War, with its characteristic bronze statue of an angel atop a white base with inscriptions.

Train will be by far the least hassle, especially with 2 sprogs in tow. So Brighton-Euston-Lockerbie is your best bet(outwith driving of course). To fly you'ld probably find you need to go to L/pool or M/chester, either way you'll still be looking at probably at least three train journeys(plus a flight) if you decided to fly. Nope, deffo train all the way. That way you go directly there!

You can get a direct London Euston to Lockerbie train on the 27th December and it will take around 4 hours, but it's not cheap. The cheapest single fare for 1 adult and two children is £182.

Unfortunately the main bus companies, such as National Express, only appear to go between major towns and cities so won't be much use.

You want to travel on a Sunday in the middle of the Christmas holiday period? First thing you ought to do is check with National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50 exactly what the train service is likely to be that day - they tend to do lots of engineering work over the Christmas/New Year period, and there are often a couple of days with virtually no trains at all; the online train planners may not fully reflect the true situation if most trains are cancelled.

If the trains are running, you will probably want to travel Brighton - Victoria - Euston - Preston - Lockerbie, taking around 6 hours over all. You should get a Friends & Family Railcard (£26) to get 1/3rd off your fare and 60% off the kids fares.
