Wearing a kilt in Dubai?

I'll be passing through Dubai en route to Auckland for a few months and I'd be keen to take my kilt with me. Heavy as it is: I wish to wear it (rather than it take up precious space in my luggage) on the journey. Will this pose a problem?

It is properly knee-length, I won't be flashing people (normally true Scotsman, but since it's a long flight and foreign countries, I'd rather not risk it) and with socks it won't leave much more than an inch or two of exposed flesh.

So, again: Will it be okay to wear a kilt whilst in Dubai?

Yes, it's completely fine. There are no strict clothing rules there, but people might stare.

That sounds cool. Dubai is perhaps the most liberal of Islam states, and you will be welcomed. You will probably get a lot of Scottish questions from those who are brave enough to ask.

It will be OK in the transit, but outside in the city/mall,people would think you are participating in a fancy dress show or like.Sometimes they have this sudden show in the malls when a Scottish or other Europeanly dressed troupe comes out of nowhere and perform on a song or play different musical instruments for the customers for a few minutes.

If you are going to be at the airport there would not be a problem, as you might be on connected flights and people are used to see different things.

If you plan to get out of airport and walk around the city you will not feel comfortable because every each person will stare at you. So get your kilt in the hotel (if you are going to stay in one) for the short time and get yourself a shorts and the normal shirt that you can keep even in your side pocket of personal luggage. You are going to avoid necessary questions.
