The people of Spain have done a deal with the flies. They only bother British tourists.

We have nets up at the windows to keep them out. The worst time for flies is about now, but you have to bear in mind the temperature here is still about 23c. They'll disappear about mid-December.provided the temperature falls, but it may not.

This depends on where you live. We live in the outskirts of Benidorm and very rarely get a fly in the house we leave the windows and patio door of our apartment open 24/7. But into the countryside you will get more I have no idea why.

Make sure nothing is left out in the open to tempt them, no food stuff, fruit etc., then you will have no trouble in the house!
Where I live we don't have such a problem, must admit in rural areas I do think it is worse,

I live to towards the Nothern end of the Costa Blanca in a Wine Growing area - and i've found that living close to vines means that when the farmers leave a fair portion of the fruit on the tree to rot, that this attracts loads of flies.
Encouraging Geckoes to live inside your house helps a lot, and since last year when I planted a number of lemon trees I notice that the number of flies bothring me has fallen. Maybe a coincidence , I dunno

The flies are here because the temperature is still so mild so I just tell myself if I still lived in England-no flies just loads of cold days and rain--as I sit in the garden in a t shirt !

Hahaha. That's how tapas started. Putting plates on top of beer glasses to stop the flies going in! You kind of just have to put up with them.

I do not understand why people are so species sensitive.

    Enjoy the local wildlife!

Seriously, it depends where you live in Spain, the season and on the weather.
They should all have died off by next week.

Live in Spain and there are no flies here....................yet.

    That's why they invented TAPAS.

To keep the flies out of their beers.

    You didn't know that?

The whole concept of Tapas is that they put TOPS on their glasses, to keep the flies out. Then, one barkeep had the brilliant idea that it might be smart to put something ON the little plates they were using to TOP the glasses....something that was cheap, and would make the patron want to drink more...brainstorm! ham and a slice of cheese! (this was back when Jamón serrano wasn't very expensive) and then the concept grew from there.
