I want to visit Africa and help out there?

Question

I just don't know what organization I should choose. A simple Google search doesn't really give me too many choices, atleast not any that I can find/see.I volunteer around here a lot and as much as I enjoy it I really want to try out something new and I think this might be a good idea. I was thinking maybe in the Summer? I don't want to go for more than a month though only because I'd miss home too much and I know it. Money isn't a problem so it doesn't matter how much it costs to get there. I'm pretty clueless right now. I know Africa is a big place, and I can't even narrow it down to a specific place. Any help ?

I don't even know what category this goes in , so I'd appreciate you not harrassing me about my mistake, if I make one.

Figure out Africa first, North Africa are Arabic Mediteranean countries, Marocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt. The Upper Middle are Afro African Arabic speaking like Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia ( quarter most amharci) Eriteria.

Cental Africa is nice...Kenya

I would suggest checking the security progress first before embarking into Africa at the moment, but whatever it is? Its going to be an awesome experience for you, go for it!

Most of the time, volunteer work overseas requires a longer commitment than one month. There are organizations that can send you overseas as an English teacher which usually involve a term of one or two years. One of these is IFESH which sends workers to Africa and South America and possibly other areas as well. If you want a shorter term of service, the best thing to do is to contact churches, many of which send their youth groups or other groups of volunteers overseas for work projects of a few weeks' duration. If you have an affiliation with a denomination, that would be the place to start. Otherwise try doing a search using keywords Africa Overseas Volunteer and you may get some more options. There are certainly possibilities out there, if you are interested, but the difficulty for you is that you want to go for such a short time. Most volunteer opportunities are designed to give you a chance to get familiar with the local culture, maybe learn some of the local language, and then begin your work on a project, and all this really takes more time than you seem to want to commit. Please consider allowing yourself a longer commitment because you will not regret your time in Africa, if you choose to go there.

A good organisation that you could search into could be Worldvision or Unicef, they provide the much needed assistance and i'm pretty certain they'd accept volunteers anytime! Good luck with that :)
