If you are a serious budget traveler, you should BUDGET for 12 pounds a day, but you will occasionally get by for less in India, Thailand, Indonesia, and certain parts of China. 12 pounds is more realistic for Vietnam.
If you are not rock bottom, and plan on treating yourself a bit, and not always settling for the cheapest accomodation, then 12-18 pounds a day will be comfortable.

So, 2,200 pounds for 6 months (not including flights, insurance, or special things like scuba diving) if you're careful. People often travel for less though. If you couchsurf occasionally, especially in big cities, you'll quickly save a lot of money
