Do I need a special visa to go from Canada to USA if I am a british passport holder?

We are going to Canada for 5 days and then onto NYC for 5 days. We live in England so its just for a brief 2 centre holiday. Thanks

It depends on your mode of travel. If you are traveling by land, you do not have to apply for ESTA. If you are coming to the U.S. by air or sea, you DO have to apply for ESTA.

The ESTA is not required for crossing a Canadian - U.S. land border. All you need in this case is to obtain a form I-94W at the border at a fee of $6.00

The ESTA is easy to get and it is free of charge. It only takes a couple of minutes. All you need are your passport details, an e-mail-address and your telephone number. The address and flight details data can be omitted since those information is not mandatory for an ESTA approval. British passport holders entering the USA as tourists do NOT need a visa, they will be allowed to stay up to 90 days.

You need to fill in the ESTA before you go. Do it straighyt away - READ BELOW!

You will not be allowed to enter from Canada if you do not have this clearance.

Make sure you read and answer very carefully every question! I entered the wrong category of
British citizen (I think there are 20+!!!!!!) and instantly got a 24 hour ban on retries. Look on your passport to check your category!
