How many is a few?

When Ireland was divided, I'm quite sure it was done so in the belief it was the best compromise at the time and the politicians were unaware of a whole new can of worms it would open up.

Would they have done it any differently had they been able to see into the future?

Northern Ireland seems to be on a slow and gentle road back to some form of reunification with the republic now anyway and no doubt it will be too slow for some and too quick for others.

Ireland is an island - not a country. Do you mean the Republic of Ireland?

Maybe. Maybe not. There's no point in dwelling on it, we can only live with what we have now. At the time, splitting up seemed like the best thing to do to the majority of people, so we can't know what would have happened otherwise.

And sorry to be pedantic, but Ireland is the name of this country. The constitution says "The name of the state is Ireland". "The Republic of Ireland" is a description of the country, not its name.

You seem confused. Only part of the island of Ireland is part of the UK. Probably the rest will rejoin if a referendum is allowed but presently thats unlikely. Hopefully once they rejoined as part of the Uk the whole island as you say would once again be unified.

All this is if's and but's we will never know for sure, if you have not got the good will of the People it will never work out. There were various occasions that the British Government were thinking of Granting Ireland Total Independence, all kinds of Deals mainly to do with the First and second World Wars.
Through Political Expediency and Betrayals and fear of the consequences it was Rejected.

The Majority of the Population in the Northeast were never going to be Happy with a United Country and always Threatening Civil War so in the End the British Government were always going to back down. Maybe it would have been better to have three Counties to remain British instead of the Six and for the Unionists to Retain the Hard Core Loyalist Heartland this could have been possible and it was often talked about. So we could have had a 29 County Republic instead of 26 with bits of Counties Detached because of Allegiences like Armagh and other parts of the North.

Back in 1947 when India was getting it's Independence the Islamic Community could not agree with being Ruled by a Majority Hindu Parliament so they asked for partition against the Wishes of Mohatma Gandhi. So in 1948 on Independence the Two Countries were formed Pakistan and India and Hindu People moved to the Indian Side and Islamic People moved to the Pakistan side. But there was mass Bloodshed with Slaughtering of the Populations on both sides, those who wished to stay in the Areas they always lived in were picked on while those already on the move were also Killed.

Although I do not think it would get as bad as India there was still the chance of a Civil War between the Loyalists and Republicans if the Country was United back in 1922. Nowadays it is better to leave things alone far more better to not have any pressure ,where People can come and go wherever they want and get along with each other and whatever happens in a future Time who knows.

Nobody knows the answer to that. The way things were, the Irish got a very rough deal under British rule, so it is not surprising that those who could, wanted to do something about it. But times change, and it is anybody's guess if we could have become independent the same way that Australia and Canada did, for example, peacefully and without bloodshed. There were many other countries, India and African nations among them, where there was even worse violence and slaughter. History is what happened, and we can't replay the past. Instead, it is up to us to create the better future we want.

No, what difference would it have made. No logic in your question whatsoever.
