It would be very difficult. The economy is still slow, and truck haulage has for many years now been a very difficult profession. The cost of fuel (£1.10-£1.20/litre) and running an HGV has made it extremely difficult for operators to make a profit. The high overheads of being a British driver have been made worse by European drivers entering the country with foreign vehicles that can be operated with lower costs from other EU nations. If you really want to work in Britain, you would probably be better off working for an Italian or other foreign company that regularly sends you to the UK.
