Do I need to leave the EU to come back to the UK as a visitor?

My work permit expires soon and I have tickets booked to fly out in Feb. I can normally get a 6 months visitor's visa when coming into the UK. Do I now need to leave the EU to come back as a visitor or would going to France suffice?

Just leaving the UK and going to France, should be fine, as long as you do not need a visa to go to there. However, do bear in mind that our immigration dept. has wised up to the fact that people come here for their allotted time, leave the country for a few days and then return again.. So once you have left and come back after a few days, it is highly unlikely that you would be able to do so again in the future.
