How much money should I take to New York for 7days for 2 people?

Flight and Hotel are already booked. I'm staying in Times Square. Want to explore the city and do some shopping as well. It will be my boyfriend's birthday, so would like to take him somewhere nice to eat too. I was thinking something along the lines of $2500 between us? Is that too much, or more than enough?

My wife and I normally go to Manhattan, New York once a year in February. Before we arrive we always have the hotel (in Manhattan) and Broadway show already paid for. My wife and I take $2,500.00 cash and always end up taking out about another $1,500.00 around the 3rd, 4th day. This includes about $500.00 in shopping. The rest of the cash is spent in restaurants (The View, Tavern on the Green, TAO, etc.), taxi cabs and museums.

What ever you do, do not eat at Friday's. The first time we went to Manhattan we went to Fridays in Time Square and paid about $75.00 for 1 appetizer, 1 soup and 2 entre sandwiches. Mind you this was the first place we ate at, so I was like holly sh#*t. After that I realized that all of the other restaurants were not that expensive. I quickly learned that Friday's was not the place to go to in Manhattan. Everywhere else I went the food was very affordable. We normally ate McDonald's at Time Square for Breakfast and ate lunch at other little places around Manhattan and Dinner in Fancy restaurants (Dinner was about $200.00-$300.00 a night).

US$2500 should be more than enough but keep an eye on your spending.

So far, 60% of the US$2500 has be used for necessities and you haven't even started to shop yet and some attractions may charge an admission fee to get in which will slowly eat your funds away.

I would say that would be good if you do not do a lot of shopping. Be sure and go to Chinatown and get some deals there. Great purses there and just a neat experience
