Can anybody recommend a nice romantic hotel in Venice?

I want to take my Girlfriend away for a romantic weekend away in January. We both have 3 children each and it is very rare that we get the chance to go away by ourselves. Can anybody recommend, hotels, nice places to eat etc in venice. I would like somewhere romantic and traditional, not to fussed about prices thanks

If you really don't care about cost, go with the Cipriani - http://www.hotelcipriani.com/web/ocip/ho… This is top of the line by any standards.

If that breaks the budget, then the site I use for hotels here in Italy is: http://www.venere.com/italy/venice/ . I live a couple of hours away from Venice and stay over for Carnevale, Il Redentore, or the Biennale sometimes. A couple of places I like are:

Hotel Selvadego http://www.venere.com/hotels/venice/hote… and Hotel all'Angelo
http://www.venere.com/hotels/venice/hote… . Both of these are very close to Piazza San Marco. The Selvadego is a minute or less on foot.

A couple of places I like to eat include:

Da Raffaele is especially nice when you can get an outside table and eat while the gondolas pass by. There are many other possibilities - check the menus while you're out exploring to pick places that appeal to you. Of course the restaurants at the Cipriani are excellent and have a great view of Venice.

I've stayed in many of the places suggested in this guide - they are all very individual and Italian. Don't laugh... many places are just International. GO to a country to see what it's really like, Go by Sawday's recommendation

Any hotel in Venice is romantic ! Go to a small restaurant off the main street and soon a man will come in and start singing . Take a gondola ride and the gondolier will start singing . Look out your hotel window and some one will be singing . Soon you will be singing and making your own romance .
