Well now you have some conflicting answers which doesn't help!

So in short then no it is not in the "centrum" area of Amsterdam. http://www.mapsofworld.com/netherlands/a… and I personally would call question it being even loosey being described in the centre of Amsterdam either. The website itself is pretty vague even although it mentions being in the "heart of the city" which is something I would strongly contest! http://www.amstelbotel.nl/en/

If you want a hotel which is in walking distance of the main area's of Amsterdam - Leidseplein, Rembrandplein, the Dam (etc) then this is not the location for you no. You would have to go behind Amsterdam Centraal Station and then take the ferry which is about 10-15mins and then on top of that either walk (approx 15mins) or apparently you can take a shuttlebus but I don't know how regular this service is or when it stops.

Some people like it for exactly that - ie that it is a bit out of the centre and quieter to stay than some of the hotels which can be pretty noisy at night - so it depends what you want, but to say it is in the heart of the city is not correct and debatable if you would even be able to class it as the wider use of the centre of Amsterdam (IMHO)

A good way to check out hotels is to look on a place like Trip Advisor which give reviews from people who have stayed there, and they are usually a lot more realistic than the marketing literature that the hotel itself produces. So have a read and then see if this is something for you or not. http://www.travelpod.com/hotel/Amstel_Bo…

P.S. - the "nominal fee" for parking is a dead giveaway. Last time I checked it was about €4 an hour for parking in the centre of Amsterdam and no-where (incuding hotels with their own car parking spaces) offers cheap car parking.

EDIT - ok I see 'Flyer' changed his/her answer since I started mine. So at least you have pretty consistant answers now.
