You do not say where you will be travelling from. The area you want for entertainment is called "The Westend" - it includes Leicestere Square, Piccadilly, Soho, Covent Garden and much more.

Here below is a map which shows you the Westend. . .

Below, just to get you in the mood are two webcams - both live - one is at Piccadilly Circus the other overlooking Trafalgar Square.

Four main tube stations serve the Westend - Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square, Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Circus.

As Piccadilly Circus is widely regarded as the middle of London, you can normally easily find where you want to go from there. If you're going from Heathrow, catch the underground there and get off (ages) later at Piccadilly Circus. If coming from Gatwick, get Gatwick Express to Victoria and go onto the Underground and catch the (northbound) Victoria Line train to Green Park (one stop) and then change to the (eastbound) Piccadilly Line (the line maps above the windows in the trains will tell you where you are).

Depends where ya mean by "Central London", cöck. Leicester Square's Central London, as are Charin' Cross, Piccadilly, Oxford Street, Soho and Covent Garden in WEST London, and Liverpool Street, Mansion House, White Chapel, Shoreditch, Stepney and Bethnal Green in EAST London. Peace and love! Be lucky! :)

If you are arriving at Heathrow Airport, then take the Piccadilly Line to any of the central locations in London. Follow the airport signs to 'Underground'. It only goes in one direction from the airport so you won't get on the wrong train.
