What is the best way to travel to Cairo and Alexandria from Luxor?

I want to stay in Luxor for 2 weeks but want to see Cairo and Alexandria without having to stay overnight in either as I will be paying for my hotel for 14 nights. I don't want to take an internal flight and would rather avoid the train if I can. Can I take a private boat along the nile that will take me there and bring me back on the same day?

no there is no way a private boat could get to cairo and back in one day. the distance is around 700 Kms,and alex is a further 200Kms that would mean travelling at about 350 Km an hour to make the trip in only 2 hours to cairo.
the only possible way to get there and back in one day is a flight even if you took the train you would probably be taking an overnight trip. Realistically you could take a flight which takes an hour, visit the places you want to go and fly back at night. Or do the same thing with the over night train which is cheaper. trying to go to Alex as well is going to be almost impossible unless you take two separate days to complete the trip.

No way to do Cairo or Alex by boat from Luxor

Please check the website in the sources and you will find the first link the over day trip to Cairo from Luxor either by plane or by sleeper train

Also you always submit in Build your own excursions and they can work it our for you

no u can't a private boat and its better to use domestic flights its not that expensive in comparison by trains, and since these days there are problems with the trains then its safer by god's will
