How long do I need left on my passport to travel to India?

I am hoping to travel in India from January-July 2010.My passport expires July 30th 2010. Do I need a new passport?

You cannot travel to India for seven months; the maximum time of stay on a tourist visa is 180 days or 6 months; all citizens except those of Bhutan, Nepal, and the Maldives need a visa which must be applied through Indian Embassies and Consulates prior to travel. To apply for a tourist visa you must hold a passport which is valid for at least another 6 months on the date of application, so your passport will be good to go. The visa validation starts from the date of issue; in order to stay for full 6 months you need to apply for at least a one year valid multiple entry visa.

If you already have a valid visa you can travel. If not the Indian emabssy will ask you to renew your passport before stamping the visa

You shoul,d have minimum 6 months valid passport when you arrive in India.
