Has anyone here had any orthodontal or dental work up north? is it much cheaper?

It's a flaming rip off in the republic, i've heard it's cheaper up north. Has anyone had any experiences? comparisons of prices?

I had to get a wisdom tooth extracted and it cost £200(€224) this time last year in Ballymoney. That was private as i was not waiting 12 weeks to go to the hospital and have it done on the NHS.
My own dentist (NHS prices) in Derry, a filling is about £40(€44) and an extraction is £60(€67). Basic appointment is around £25(€28) and an x-ray is £40(€44) from what i remember.

I know this is not answering your question, but if you are living a fair journey from the north eg. Galway it works out nearly as same as the price you are paying in the South..
If going North you would have to: 1) Take the day off work. 2) Petrol Costs 3) Food 4)probably a bit of shopping.
If going for to an Orthodentist you will be making quite a few trips up and down between checkups and so on it does work out to be expensive with (1, 2,3).
So better to make up the costs of days off etc before you do go up the North,

Well I was quoted down here braces would cost €3000. I also have to get one of those fake teeth as one of mine is missing (doesn't look as bad as it sounds you wouldn't notice haha, still have the baby tooth and I'm 15) and that's a little over €2000 on top of that.

Compare it to up the north which was about over €2000 or €3000 altogether cant remember. Still a heck of a lot less.

I have no personal experience but apparently it is much cheaper and lots of people do it. For major dental work many people even go to Hungarian Clinics, stay for a few days and fly back. Even that is cheaper than having the work done here.
