Best places to live in Manchester?

My boyfriend and i are moving to Manchester in the new year. We are both renting a place and finding work there. We are in search for a nice location, good night life, bars, restaurants, shops and a contrast bewteen buzzing youth and quiet spots to relax and places near by with things to do/go.

Helpful answers only please :)

I'd say Chorlton all the way. It's got a lovely bohemian creative vibe to it, but it's not pretentious. All walks of life occupy this lovely green space- It's got a nature reserve too!

Chorlton's got great bars, delis, boutiques, restaurants and possibly the best chippy in all of Greater Manchester.

It's not hugely expensive and it's out of the way of the main, messy student drag. It's also not as far out (or pretentious!) as Didsbury and takes less time on the bus to get into town. The council are also extending the tram service to Chorlton within the next year or so.

It's so self-contained and has such a lovely vibe, but so close to the centre too. Best of both worlds.
