Met a guy online and i need advice...?

Question

I've been chatting to this guy online, via text, on webcam and on the phone for a couple of months now, so I'm pretty certain he is who he says he is. We're meant to be meeting up in december and I'm taking a couple of other people with me, and we're meeting in a public place, so i should be fine.
We seem to get on really well, and we talk about almost everything and anything. Just not sexual talk. The thing is i think i'm falling for him, and i don't know what to do about it. I think he feels the same way, and we've discussed long distance relationships (because he lives about 200 miles away) and we've decided we're not making any commitment until we've met up at least once.
I just want to know if anyone else has met someone online and what happened.

Hello, I'm in the same situation right now.

I met a guy online over a year ago. We've been talking almost everyday since. I've seen his myspace, facebook, all of his pictures; I've seen him on webcam several times per my request at random times, and I've talked to him on the phone. I absolutely know who he is, although for some reason, people are convinced that everyone on the internet is over 40 and is a pedophile.

Anyway, we're going to meet February of next year. It's on his birthday and two days after mine. We tried doing online dating, long-distance thing but it didn't work out for me. I'm pretty sure he's fallen for me, so when we meet, I'm going to be a little nervous. But my advice to you is to just relax, and remember that it's normal to be horribly nervous. The first 30-minutes will probably be awkward, but just remember to smile and be yourself. Treat him like you would treat a friend that you haven't seen in a while.

Also, good luck. If you decide to get into a relationship, it will probably be a lot of work and money but you can definitely make it a success.

Remember some first-meeting tips:
- Meet in a public place with a friend or family member.
- Always make sure there's people around you, you have a cell phone and that you never get yourself alone with him the first time that you meet.

I know what you mean about the paedophile thing. Thats the first thing everyone has said.
I know a long distance relationship would be a lot of work. But he's completly worth it :)

well i mean usually ppl go too crazy with online guys, cuz like u said u neverk now if they say who they think they are. but i think its awesome that ur being smart and meetin him in a safe place and bringin firneds with you. and i defo think you should hold off the idea of dating till you meet the man, cuz im not gonna lie DATING LONG DISTANCE takes ALOT of work and alot of commitment and most ppl cant handle it. so i wish you all the best... just take er slow :)

but i only proceeded to talk to him because i knew we would meet, since we actually live in the same city lol(:

anyways..we met, fell in love for 4 months
broke up today :'(
but it's because of me moving, long distance blah blah...

i met a girl once online. we had a long distance relationship for a year. we talked soooooo much, it was nice to have someone who i could tell anything and knew the real me and all my secrets lol. anyways our physical needs got stronger and we broke up . we still talk sometimes but it was amazing when we were together.we connected on a totally different level. i wish more than anything i could have met her, but that was almost impossible. good luck :) i hope it works out.

omg, im in the EXACT same position as you. i like this lad i met online, we;ve been talkin for 4/5 months. via text, phone, msn + cam. but he lives like 200-300 miles away, i feel like i know alot about him. he says he likes me, just a pitty we dont know each other or live near each other. + i feel the same. we're so close at the mo. i really cant wait to meet him :/
