Is it too risky to try and download anything anymore?

where can you go for music , film and tv series downloads on the net ?

i keep hearing that the government will enforce strict copyrighting laws on the internet soon in the uk, lord mandelson mentioned he was pushing for internet service providers to monitor your internet activities to watch if you download illegally.

you would get 3 strikes and your out , then they would disconnect you from the internet permanently , according to the reports ive heard.

i know certain internet providers are threatening legal action if peter mandelson tries to enforce this by law - i hope it can be fought.

but since this recent news story about the uk government cracking down on free internet downloading of films and music , harsh penalties if you do etc -

someone recently has advised me NOT to use file sharing programs anymore like : pirate-bay , frostwire, limewire etc. - they said its too risky now.

if thats the case where else can i go to download things i like, like : old films , music old tv series, cartoons etc - where else can i go or what website can i use ?

what do you use to download your films , music and tv series ?

do you agree with my friend that i should stop using file sharing programs ?

please proper english , coherent understandable intelligent answers.

thanks.

I live in Sweden so I know your pain. The Pirate Bay process has made people here afraid of downloading.

I personally use private torrent trackers where you have to get personally invited by someone who already has an account. Getting such invite can be hard, especially on the most renowned and popular trackers like TorrentBytes, TorrentLeech and SceneTorrents. On these you have to follow certain rules as well, like having ratio >=1.0 etc.

To improve your security I recommend avoiding public trackers (like PirateBay) and configure your client to encrypt outgoing data. Check your torrent clients documentation on this.

Edit: Adam, RapidShare and other hosting sites are slow and unreliable. I agree though that they may be considered "somewhat legal" way of downloading.

I do not agree with your friend. Just because someone tells you something, doesn't mean you should believe it. I have never payed for any software, music and movies and I never will.

    Here's your new home: www.warez-bb.org

This website is not illegal. It's just a forum. They provide links for user submitted files which are hosted on file hosting sites such as Rapidshare. Therefore, everything is legal. No one knows what you're downloading.
