Why did my hamster die ?

Question

yesterday i was playing with my hamster when i got in from school it was out climbing up the bars and running around at around 4o'clock i had it on my knee and running around the floor after this i put my hamster back in the cage and it went straight into her house but at around 8.00pm my mum shouted me in and the hamster was making a weird noise like a "mmphh" noise almost as tho it was crying my mum then took the lid of her house and she just stared at her so my mum was talking too her and stroking her and later that night she died i dnt understand why though please help :( :'( xx

Pip was only around 3 months old your views have been very touching thanks to you all i have had various hamsters in the past myself and Pip was my baby aswell i also cried for 2 days its terrible we have also minded my friends hamsters while they have been away and not killed dem my mum thinkss the poor thing had a chest infection as of the way it was breathing :\ thanks again for your concerns Meghan xxx

I'm sorry for the loss of your beloved friend. Unfortunately, there's no way to know on a forum exactly what happened. Your Vet could run tests, but while that would give you an answer it won't bring it back.

maybe he/she was to old and he/she weakend and then died but he/she seems very hyper!

Hard to tell.. How old was the hamster? It could have been because it was old.. My hamster died when it was 5 months.. It eat the curtains and it got stuck in him and he died.. But i cant figure out why he eat them.. Any way it could have been to cold for your hamster if it was beside the window etc.. But hamster are so small so they can easy die and we will never know for sure. Im veary sorry to hear that your hamster died.. Ive had hamsters for over 6 years "different kinds etc" so ive seen some die.. Its not easy and i loved mine veary much like it was my baby.. I cryed for days.. Sometimes hamsters die from being old etc.. Hamsters live around 2 year or 3 years depends..
