What is 1274 divided by 36.2335?

Before you reach for the calculator... I need to know how to do this without one. So could you provide an explanation on how to do so. (If you're wondering why, it's because I'm doing C1 maths and need to work out the square root of 1274, but am not allowed to use a calculator :s)

Well you didn't answer the initial question but actually you went one better and showed me a far easier method, so it's still the best answer.

    35.693 is the sq rt of 1274

    write down the No in units of 2
    3) 12.74 find the greatest sq that goes into 12 then record the rt
    9 subtract this from 12
    66 374 bring down the next two Nos double 1st ans/ into 37
    5) 330 root 36 sq rt is 6 place this in front of divisor
    706 4400 ans so far 35x2 =70 + 6 as 7 goes into 44, 6 times
    6) 4236
    164

    as you can see when you run out of Nos you bring down 00 in pairs and this is where the decimal point starts so you have 35.6 so far, good luck, it can be done with logs and anti logs.

    let x = 36.2335
    10,000x = 362,335
    x = 362,335/10,000

    This cancels down to 72,467/2000
    Now you have a fraction to work with so flip it and multiply out.

    1274 x 2000 = 2,548,000
    ............ _______________
    72,467 /2548000.0000000

    Still not an easy sum but if you're good at division then it might be do-able? :S
