Question

Communication is important in early years settings because....

Could you just give me some ideas on why communication is important for the children, practitioners and the parents with in the early years settings.

children learn to make attachments thrugh communication. It starts with non-verbal - i.e. Eye contact, facial expressions, learning to read emotions by watching others' behaviour. In terms of practitioners and parents, communication is important as it reassures the child that all people involved in its world are 'connected' - again helping the child to form strong, safe and appropriate attchments to enable successful relationships in later life

good communication conveys ideas. The more ideas you have available to you, the more informed decisions you can make. If a child has several ideas of how to solve a problem (there is always more than one solution), they can make a more informed decision. Throw as many good ideas at a child as you can, and you will be rewarded with a child that has an open mind, and is willing to explore even MORE ideas. Information is key.
