I've been told that it is best to match-up with someone with the same Sun element and Moon element. In your case:
Sun: Fire signs
Moon: Water signs

Also, it helps when you know yours and his Venus signs. Best combo for Venus signs: Water & Earth and Fire & Air It's the balance that keeps it strong.
