First of all, don't EVER refer to the Republic of Ireland as Southern Ireland. It suggests you think if it as part of UK, and it has not been for just over 90 years.

We've come a long way in 90 years, we are now reasonably friendly towards each other. Yes, there are bigots and extremists with nasty hidden agendas, but generally speaking that as long as certain things are respected, there are no more issues between Britain and the Republic of Ireland or between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland is comprised of six of the nine counties of the province of Ulster. Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom (UK). To use the entire name -- The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Three of the counties from the province of Ulster are part of the country called The Republic of Ireland or Eire. People born on the island of Ireland are considered Irish by the Republic (as in it doesn't matter to the Republic if you're born in Norn Iron or the Republic).

A person born in Northern Ireland can claim British and/or Irish citizenship.

Other than that, legions of books have been written on the topic and it's way beyond the scope of what anyone could write here. Good Luck!

There is a very good relationship between all three.

Actually Orla c - Ireland, be it Northern or Republic of, have NEVER been part of Britain. Not 90 years ago, and not now.

Britain is a completely seperate Island so it would be Impossible to be part of it. I am highly surprised that you are not aware of this.

Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland (not Southern). You'll fail your presentation called the ROI southern Ireland alone. Look up stuff on the Good Friday agreements, they will be useful for your presentation.

They're all part of the "British Isles" which is a geographical term, not a political one.

Politically there's not much that links Southern Ireland to the UK anymore, but there are many many historic bonds and a shared heritage and ofcourse the famous Irish animosity towards the British. It is importnat for Americans to remember that just as millions of Irish went over to the US in the 1840s, even more went to Britain, and these peopel today consider themselves English but with Irish ancestors.

British Isles = English speaking Islands north of France/Spain, west of Norway.

United Kingdom = England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Britain = Same as above minus Northern Ireland.
