What is the best/cheapest way of flying into china/se asia?

Im planning a 6 month trip to hopefully travel through tibet and china, then through vietnam and se asia.
Can anyone give me some advice of the best way of doing this,
what is the cheapest place to fly to (from london) to start the trip from?
I plan to include mongolia, and some of northern china...
my orginal idea was to do it in this order...
tibet-china/mongolia-vietnam-cambodia-… with a few months in japan.

do you think this is a good order? is there a better/cheaper way of doing it.
all help will be much apprectiated!

Try some of the student travel agents - you don't have to be a student to travel with them.

STA Travel is a very good one, or I've used Trailfinders in the past, who I'll also recommend. They'll be able to advise you of the best route and how to keep costs down etc. There's no harm in speaking to them, eh?

Enjoy your travels - I'm very envious!

Give Airline Network a call. They also have their own website www.netflights.com (part of the Thomas Cook group) - as a travel agency manager I always found they were the best and give great advice. They can find you the cheapest fares and they are a fully bonded reputable company. You can't always visit countries in the order you want to as the airline have what they call 'directional minimums' where you have to cover a certain number or miles, and they have rules on whether or not you can backtrack. Sometimes the cheapest way is to have more stop-offs than you would ideally like. You have to weigh up the options and they will help you.

Make sure you can satisfy the Visa requirements.
remembering that you wont be able to work on tourist visa's
and you once you go over the usual tourist lengths, that there maybe funding minimums.

    eg
    - Japan has a visa free tourist/business trip entry of 28 days.
so longer would need visa... etc.
    - China is usually a 30 day length of stay, and 1 entry...
They also have a minimum validity (3 months from issue is normal...). Althoug dual entry is also available and new visa can be obtained readily in HK, if entry is needed after 3 months of your journey/you cannot get a longer term entry. Also be aware, that if you don't stay at a hotel, you must register with the police within 24 hours, pref the day you arrive. (penalty 50 pounds/day not registered)

But talking to the usual backpacking etc agencies will be able to advise/support your applications.
