If the hard drive was wiped clean then your only option would to have a professional recover the files which can be expensive. So depending on how important the files are to you then that is something you can consider doing.

I'm sorry, but due to the fact that you restored your hard drive, there is no possible way your files can be retrieved.

Maybe...as long as the drive itself isn't damaged. There are company's that can try to recover data, but they can be expensive. You can use Google and search for programs that can recover partitions like Paragon Partition Manager.

Send me an email and maybe I can help.

By "the whole hard drive was completely wiped" you mean it was formatted and the OS was reinstalled as a clean install, then I'm afraid there is nothing to recover.

The hard drive will be as clean as a brand new drive before the OS was put on.

Sorry to say you have now just learnt the hard lesson of not backing anything off. Especially something as big as a 22 Chapter manuscript!

It can't be emphasised enough that you cannot rely on computers or hard drives. They can fail at any time as there is no time limit.

There are file recover programs that you can download from the internet. Sadly they do not recover all of the files that have been lost but if you are lucky you should get back the files you need.

I'd suggest using the file recovery software before you go down the costly route of paying through the nose for a professional.
