But Why Ireland use english language ???

Ireland does have its own historic language, and most Irish people know at least some Irish - many like to use it in appropriate situations, as an alternative to English.

Irish and English have equal status as official languages, and most people in public service roles, from Gardai (police officers) to senior civil servants, have to be competent in Irish.

Take a look at photos from Ireland on the web - you'll see that road signs, for instance, are in both languages.

PS - Squeaky - the use of Irish isn't compulsory in the Gaeltacht; that would be really difficult for tourists! They are districts where Irish the majority language, and signage uses Irish before English, there are local Irish radio stations, most schools use Irish as a teaching medium, etc.

Ireland does have its own language, Gaelic, and there is a region in Ireland called the Gaeltacht where people are allowed only to speak it.

The use of English in Ireland is partly the result of occupation by the British for centuries and partly the fact that English is the international language of commerce.

All Irish school children are taught their native language,but internationally how else would they be understood without English. How could they work in the UK. Gaelic is a hard language to pick up you know.I would say Welsh is the most common form of gaelic followed by Irish, followed by Scottish which not many people speak and lastly Cornish which almost died out and is only spoken by a handful of people.

Cultural Imperialism!

Ireland was England's first colony. They were invaded in 1170 and the people were forced to abandon their own language and culture in favour of that of the English colonisers.

It's something that's happened all over the world due to Britain's imperialist past!

Like Scotland they speak English even though for thousands of years the Scots and the Irish spoke Gaelic.

There are still a minority of Gaelic speakers in both countries.

Most foreign Countries use English. This is the worlds main Language. Yep, Ireland has their own Language and it is called Gaelic,( I hope this is accurate in spelling.) English is easier to learn and teach the Children in a World where English is used all over the World.

The "English" language came from the "Anglish" peoples of mainland Europe.

Before the invasion of the Angles, they were Picts and Scots mostly.

The Brits tried to wipe out gallic. In fact at the turn of the century, they actually beat school children for speaking Gallic instead of english.
