Is it possible to get an STD from having sex if both partners are virgins?

And if both partners didn't get any STD's from their mothers?

No, that would of course require spontaneous generation of infection, a theory disproved by Louis Pasteur in the 1850s.

Some people can get infections like hepatitis or oral herpes (oral herpes causes cold sores, they are very common to have) with out having sex. Some stds can be passed through genetics or by sharing needles. They can pass these infections onto you when you have oral sex or sexual intercourse with them.
Unfortunately the only way to tell if some one is clean is to have them tested for stds (include herpes many routine std tests don't), preferable before you have any kind of sex. If both partners are clean of infections and stds then they are not able to pass one onto their partner. Use condoms to be on the safe side. Some people count them selves as virgins eve if they have had oral sex before.

You can get STDs from many other sources, such as sharing needles with drug users or blood transfusions (although the risk from blood transfusions is extremely low).

You want to be safe? Get your partner to have an STD test. These days, people LIE about "being a virgin". It made my partner much more comfortable when I handed her a piece of paper from the county health department that said "I'm HIV negative."
