Hi - take a look at the Enjoy England website, for hotels in London:

http://search.enjoyengland.com/en-GB/Sea…

The four star Radisson Edwardian Marlborough Hotel, has double rooms available from £85 a night - breakfast included. The hotel is within walking distance of the West End, Covent Garden and Leicester Square, making it an ideal base to explore London:

It depends on what 'too expensive' means, but I liked the

I lived in London for over 20 years, and I rather liked this under-rated 4*, and you really can't get more central.

was lovely last time I met anyone there - and they liked their room. It's behind Buckingham Palace, so is convenient for sightseeing and shopping, but not quite as convenient for theatres. Think uptown New York City, rather than the Charing Cross midtown and you're not far out.

see if you can pick up a good deal on laterooms.com
the rookery and hazlitts are beautiful little hotels but i think they're really quite expensive nowadays. i've stayed at a place called the lord milner near victoria which is beautiful too and had some great deals when it first opened. there's a place in bayswater called the vancouver studios that i often stayed in for work, it's cheap by london standards and nice. i think it won best budget accommodation in the time out awards. the mayflower in earls court is also quite good. check out tripadvisor though for feedback and other suggestions..enjoy!

You do get what you pay for with London hotels. A decent 3 star (basic but central) is the Strand Palace Hotel in Covent Garden. A room will be around £70 - 100 a night for a double.

A good place to start is www.laterooms.com and then when you find a hotel within your budget and location, check the reviews on www.tripadvisor.com. That's how I always do it as there are literally hundreds of hotels in London and no one on YA has stayed at them all.

If you can afford a 4* in London centre then you need to have money, it will be over £100 a night at least, possibly more like £300/ 400.

Aim for a 2* or 3* somewhere close to where you want to be. Else stay in one of the out skirt towns ( Bromley/ Dartford/ Croydon etc) and commute in for a few days. It may be cheaper.

Others have given you good hotel booking site, but something like laterooms.com may have special offers.

By the way, there are several thousand hotels in the centre of London. hopefully you will find one that you will like

    Enjoy your trip.

there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it's very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

Although this is a 2* it is spotless and affordable. I've stayed there a couple of times.

Close to Victoria Station and a lot fo the sights.
