What does being a part of the EU mean (please read)?

Before half term we were learning about the European Union and I don't really understand it. Does being a part of the EU make you a European National or am I still just British? Do you know what I mean? I get confused because Scotland, Wales and England are in the UK and then we're in the European Union and then we're all in Europe! What does it mean Do we get any special rights or anything?

You're still a British national as long as you were born here. If you hold the nationality of one of the member states of the EU (in your case, British), that makes you citizen of the European union. This runs alongside your British citizenship, it does not replace it. You are British first.

There are some special rights. You can travel, study, work and live in every EU member state of the EU. You have the right to vote and stand for election in local and European parliament elections in your country of residence or birth and you have the right the right to diplomatic protection of the EU if you're travelling outside it. It isn't a country or anything like that, it's just a union and not all of Europe is in it.

In the form of currency you're united. The government legislation of each individual country is still on it's own. Only in a financial status are they united.

A couple countries are not in the EU. I am pretty Sure Great Britain is not. They still use pounds. Not Euros.

no you are a British national first and for most being part on the EU isn't like joining a country it is an organization the deals with the European Continent and its issues its a good thing that your country is part of the EU it can possibly adopt the euro it a very good currency its higher than the American dollar.

To the answer that says UK is not in the EU - yes it is, but it is not in the Euro, that is optional.

Yes you do get rights as an EU citizen - the right to freely travel and settle anywhere in the EU, without any requirement to produce a passport when crossing land borders, no need to have a work permit or visa to work in other EU countries, etc.

It means that as well as being British, you are also a subject of a classically fascist state that your grand or great grand parents fought and died to keep you out of

Essentially being part of the EU means that our government have sold our freedom to an unelected dictatorship .

It means that by the time you have kids you will be living in a European Super State that has no real democratic process and will control evert aspect of your life with no mandate from the people .

The UK is already being , and will continue to be , flooded with immigrants until there is no form of British society left . Throughout your life poverty in Britain will increase every year and freedom will decrease every year .

Basically remaining in the EU is like asking to be enslaved .

It's a form of disguised "separatism" - The USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are 'European' but not in the E.U.. The USA keep 'in touch' with N.A.T.O. and the U.N..
We should be out of the E.U. and back in our Monarchs Commonwealth - also a sort of 'separatism' but 'terminology' is twisted to suit a few with their own ideas.
Our Monarch has no 'jurisdiction' on the mainland
It has been mentioned on Yahoo! how others sign on our Monarch's behalf - so they shouldn't be worth the paper they are written on. (about how long it could take us to get out)

We loose 'rights' - we don't gain them. It's to do with a "Religious War" - Protestants v Catholicism. It's why Ireland need "Peace Talks" - right on our door step.

Our "Education Secretaries" seem to 'have lost the plot'. School is so one can learn about others without actually being like them. Others should learn what they should be like if they plan to stay here.

Planning ahead. - As a man can have more than one wife at a time (unless one wants to be a Priest) then have the man be allowed to have five children. That means the lady need only have one and the child will still have brothers or sisters.

I think time will have 2 or 3 wives the 'average'.
