Can we spend one night in Dubai on the cheap?

trying to sort flights to New Zealand from the UK, and by far the cheapest is Emirates flying via Dubai. We've been there before but only for a few hours at the airport, this time we would really like to split the journey with one night in a hotel, which comes in around 50 pounds for two. I do want to break the journey but not end up spending 200 pounds doing it!

I'm having trouble finding answers to the following, can anyone help?
- how much is transport into Dubai city?
- can we eat for a reasonable amount; we're used to Singapore prices of about 5 pounds per person for a good curry or similar. Can we do this in Dubai?
- we know Dubai is Moslem so we need to be respectably dressed and miss out on the alcohol. Anything else we need to know?

many thanks!

Congratulations on choosing Emirates. I fly to Australia with them three times a year on average and find them to be very good. If you get the A380 you will love it.

Dubai is marketing itself as an upmarket destination so the price you have been quoted for the hotel is pretty good.

Food is wide ranging in the type, quality and prices on offer, from McDonald's to Marco Pierre White with everything in between. Prices are relatively cheap with £5 for a fair meal and £10 for a pretty good one.

Transport in Taxis is very cheap, don't know about the buses

Anywhere in the Emirates including Dubai you should wear modest clothes except on the beach. By modest I mean that shorts and shirts are OK so long as ladies do not show too much thigh or cleavage. On beaches there is no topless or nude bathing. It is not acceptable for men and women to show open affection in public even kissing and hand holding is frowned upon.

Alcohol is only available in some restaurants and in hotel bars. You cannot buy alcohol in the shops in Dubai as a visitor. You can take a moderate amount into the country for your own consumption

dubai is known for its fine cuisine. Bur Dubai, a section of modern Dubai is polluted with nice pakistani restaurants. There you get to eat tasty chicken and kebabs.

travel is not expensive; better get a time-table for the buses from bur dubai bus station and you can travel for merely anything if converted to UK pounds. Good places for foreigners to see is Jumeirah as its famous for its beach, nice restaurants and shopping.

If you fond of alcohol then why not go to the bars like in most hotels there are bars where you get served from beers, scotch and others of your choice. Few of the modern hotels with nice bars are: Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Four points Sheraton, Hyatt Regency in Deirah Dubai

1-: dubai airport is quiet close to the city centre so transportation will cost about from aiport to city centre 50 AED 1GBP=6AED
2-Food varies, u can have an ok meal for 5 pounds but for a nice one it ll cost u about 10 or summat
3-About the dress code for dubai, dont worry about hurting anyones feeling u can wear whatver u like as long as ur not planning on going naked and for the alcohol u can go to the bar in ur hotel and have all the drinks u want, and u can even buy from the airport as u cant buy inside dubai u can only drink at bars.

    Hope this helps

hi first of all u wont miss out on alcohol but ur unlikely to be able to team drinking with cheap food as alcohol is only served in hotel bars and restaurants, the cheap (and mostly very good) indian, lebanese, iranian restaurants are not in hotels so wont be able to serve alcohol. u can def get good curry for that price maybe have a drink after. as for dress just use common sense dont wear shorts/vest tops in the souks or u will attract attention. taxis are plentiful and relatively cheap in dubai, they now have metro system but not sure how it works its a few yrs since i was there, public transport is not good unless its improved since i left so u would be best with taxi. hope u have a great time.

Its on their airport site and see this http://dtc.dubai.ae for taxi rates, around 1 dhs per km.
    I think 10-20 may get u food,depends were u eat,but go to a posh brit rest,look at a bill of 200 pounds.
Respt. dressed yes, miss out on alcohol NO,Lots of it is available in bars.
I think do a little search about dubai, emirates for people on business class gives free hotel stay, check their site, also check for cheap hotel deals as ur travelling on emirates, they give discount on many hotels.
