If you are going to Florence, can you please say hi to my mom and dad? I miss my family!

BTW, the best time for sure is April, May and June, and the tip Marcello gave you was a good one! Have fun in Italy! :)

I think end of May or early june is best weather should be good by then but it won't be too packed. I was in Florence twice once in July and second time in August and it's just way tooooo busy, have to queue for everything. The second time I went I stayed in an agriturismo in a village bout 20 mins away called Impruneta up in the Chianti hills. It was fabulous little village wonderful restaurants and very Italian. For me if I was to go again I wouldn't stay in Florence just get the bus in and out during the day to see the sites and then escape to the hills in the evening. Also, it gives you more variety on your holiday the uffizi museum and all the sites in florence are great, but I loved visiting the vineyards and little towns in chianti too. If you just wanted to see Florence I'd recommend 3 nights maximum staying there, but if you have longer I suggest you try and visit some other cities close by like Siena its beautiful, my favourite italian city.

You are so lucky going to Florence, it is a beautiful place and is situated in a lovely area. I know you will enjoy it. You are going at the best time, i.e. before the European holiday season. i would go in early June, the weather should be a little more settled and warmer by then. We stayed at Signa, a village about a twenty minute train ride from the centre of the city. The Hotel Europa was not flash, a typical middle of the road Italian hotel. Clean and convenient, lovely staff, lovely location.

Late April to early June is an excellent time to visit. the weather is usually great here then - it can get very hot later. It's also before the peak of the tourist season, although there are always some tourists visiting.

I use this site for hotels here in Italy: http://www.venere.com/italy/florence/ Personally, I like to stay in the area around the Duomo when I stay overnight. However, the old town is pretty compact and it's very easy to walk from anywhere between Santa Maria Novella station and Santa Croce. Places around the station tend to be a little cheaper if that's a major consideration.

A place I particularly like is: http://www.venere.com/hotels/florence/ho… , but there are many good places to stay.

When you're in Florence, it's a good idea to make reservations for the Academia and the Uffizi if you want to go in. You can avoid the long lines to get in. there's a ticket booth on the back side of the Orsanmichele that rarely has any line where you can get tickets to the museums. If you go up to Piazza Michelangelo for the postcard views looking out over the city, be sure to continue a little further up the hill to San Miniato al Monte. The interior of the church is very nice and the small shop run by the monks is good.

Florence is a beautiful city. Be glad you are going. The best time to go would be April to May. It's a little chilly though so bring a light jacket. The hotel can be anywere really. It's all the same area. Just do your research on it first.

    I suggest April/May.

As for hotel, find one near Santa Maria Novella (look ate this: http://www.hotelgolf.it/)
Good position for transport and restaurant (there's a Pastarito near)

In may florence will be sweet. Find ana ccomodation close to Piazza della Signoria. You'll be close to all the important sites of the city.
    enjoy!
