Is Canterbury a nice place for a short break?

Hi, me, my mum, and my granny want to go somewhere for a few days in the half term. I was thinking Canterbury, it's not too far away (we live in North East London)
Does anyone know how to get there by train? (and prices?)
Hotels near the city centre (if there is one?) that are quite cheap, like Travelodge and Premier Inn.
Things to do in Canterbury, and anything else you can thionk of :)
Thanks!

Canterbury is lovely for short break. And a longer one.
It's a beautiful place.
The coolest thing I've seen in Hastings...actually in the town...is a statue of a cricketer. A very good one too.
It's a losing town, Hastings.
Gone downhill. Along the sea front there are loads of boarded up buildings, and the town just lost it's sparkle somehow.
There are still things to see. The castle, Greenwich Observatory that moved from London has a very good visitor centre and you can get a bus from Hastings to close by, and there are good walks on the cliffs.
Canterbury is much nicer......
Good transport suggestions above....have a lovely time.

haha....not a cricket lover,eh?
Bluewater is great. Fairly easy from Canterbury. Canterbury tourist website, what's on, things to do etc is here

I love Canterbury, and hope to go there myself soon. I stay at the Cathedral Gate Hotel, right in the city centre, and beside the Cathedral.
I have stayed at Travelodge, but that is about three miles out of the city, or there is one near Whitstable, and is 5 odd miles away.
You could look at the Canterbury website, gives a lot of hotels on there, but some are expensive.
Bluewater is out of Canterbury, perhaps an hour's drive.

Canterbury is lovely althought it has a very compact city centre and when I went in July they charged about £7.50 for an adult to enter the cathedral. Also there is beautiful countryside around Canterbury such as the North Downs. Bluewater isn't in Canterbury it is to the east of Dartford on the other side of the M25 off the A2.

Canterbury is an attractive town. You are not far from the coast and if you fancy a day at the seaside too then Whitstable is a nice little town. I think its only about £5 by train from Canterbury.

Hastings has seen better days and is a little bit sad these days. I went for a weekend a few years ago and that was my impression.

    HI there

Canterbury is a fine place for a short break - very historical, quaint and the cathedral is simply stunning. There are lots of hotels within the city, the best list of which you'll find at Cheap Hotel Chains - they compare all latest online deals for any destination.

Canterbury is fine but I think you can see the Cathedral and other attractions there on a one day trip. Travel on South Eastern Trains from London Charing Cross or Victoria. A same day return is £21.90
34% discount with a railcard. Your Granny only needs to pay from the end of London Zone 6 because of her Freedom Card.
