Anyone been to germany?

I'm going on a trip to Aachen with my school on the 26th October and im REALLY excited!! We're going to see the christmas market, anyone been b4?? Plz tell me ur expiriences with food, hotels, people (friendly?), etc... =(^.^)= <my cat, Snaps (he's ginger)...

I lived in Germany for 3 years. They call the Christmas market the Kris Kringle Mart and they sell the typical things like warm hats and Christmas decorations. Buy a wooden nutcracker because the same thing would cost you a great deat more in the USA. The food seems extra good especially eating it in the cold outdoors. Just about EVERYBODY speaks english and will want to practice on an American. If you ask, "Do you speak english" they will probably say "just a little" when they actually speak as good as you. There is no drinking age but it's not likely your school will let you take advantage of that. It will be a fantastic experience! Enjoy!!

Yes I live there I don't think they are friendly they do not want to mount and pound me often enough

There are some very unfriendly people giving thumbs down for very good answers!

I have been to the Christmas Market in Aachen a few times, quite a few years ago while living in Belgium.

The market is something you do and then go on. However, Aachen goes back to Roman times, has a beautiful city hall and a very big old church (Muenster).

As mentioned, Curry-Wuerst, Doner (turkish) and a lot more will catch your attention - McDonalds look more like restaurants than fas food joints.

Have fun and enjoy yourself. All young people know English, just talk and they will be more than glad to befriend you.

Stay clear of groups of young, not very smart loking men, they could spell trouble.

You will love it. The Christmas markets are very colourful and the smell from the food stalls is wonderful. The people are very friendly and very helpful and they like to help other people enjoy their country. The hotels are usually good and very clean. Enjoy yourself!

You are excited, but the answers here for your question are very stupid. Sorry.
The food is good, Christmas Market are great, drink Gluehwein some hot drink with red vine in it, people are friendly and helpful. I live in Germany many many years and had any problems. Bring warm clothes with you it will be very cold in Germany.

Some people are nice, some people aren't. That's life. But the Christmas fests are really fun here in Germany, I know because I've lived here for 4 and a 1/2 years. They have all sorts of stuff at the Christmas fests. Smoking dolls are nice. So are the things where you put candles on it, light them and the wheel on top spins, sorry I forgot what it was called. And right now in Germany it is very cold so bring warm clothing. Good Luck! Have a safe flight!

Food? Well,like us it varies from the ordinary to the yum yum.
They don't have fish shops. They have Bratty Stands.
Bratwurst mit Zigeunersauce bitte.
Grilled sausage with gypsy sauce please.
It comes in a bread roll.
You can get a boiled sausage instead of a grilled one.
That's called a Bockwurst...just like our hot dogs, but jumbo size.
Here is a Bratwurst Stand......a Bratty for us, like we say chippie...and you can see how the young people dress, just like home

If you want chips with it it's called Pommes Frites...you say it like Pomm Frit.

You will see kiddies playparks like you've never seen before, loads of happy youngsters in them, and Christmas decorations all over town that look fab.
Aachen is a very nice town...lovely place.
And very friendly people too, with better manners on the street than we have except for queueing.....the British queue at bus stops.
Everywhere else forms a big crowd instead of a queue.
Don't take too much...you need space and weight allowance to bring things home.
