How and what can I visit in the UK?

Hi I am going to go to UK next Christmas, am going to stay in Cambridge and in Essex. I want to get to know the small and beautiful towns in the UK, am seeing the possibility of going to Edinburgh, but my budget isn’t to big I can spend 70 pounds per day including, hotel, meals and transport. Am going to be there for 20 days, pleas tell me towns and how to get there (by plane or train)
Thanks for every thing

coaches are cheapest, hopefully you are travelling with somebody?
if you are a student ask with student organisations whom often are a good source of information and advise on cheap travelling and accommodation etc . they also give money saving tips and you may even be able to claim student discounts?
Edinburgh is very nice around the castle area.
Cambridge itself is steeped in history and has in interesting character of it's own.
Towns nearby withing easy reach can be researched online .use sources such as Tourist board sites to select what you want.
Avoid planes unless you are sure it is cheap ( hidden costs etc) the £70 a day is not very much as accommodation will be expensive as is some travel. sharing costs can be a big help but you need to find a willing partner whom you can trust and whom is going to see the same places etc. good luck.

Where do you come from? It is really nice you wanna come and visit the UK :) ,You''ll find very and lovely places!
Now i would like to direct to somewhere where i use to stay when i didn't know where to go and having no place also, (someone told me about it too--this is how i found out) this place is in hampstead,(forgot the name :D but as soon i remember /or i look for it i'll tell you straight away!) anyway the price is very good: this is an hostel and you pay between 25 - 30 £ per/night ( you'll be transfered into a big room where there are many other beds / not only one is an : share-room, and you''ll have your own bed too!
The thing is you have to book the place or just be quick and in time otherwise you'll miss the chance to stay in there as many people come and take the offer;)
Let me remember the name.....i'll tell you soon!!

Train travel isn't that expensiove. You can get really cheap tickets by booking in advance or buying a Britrail Pass before you arrive in the country www.britrail.com. Flying internally in the U.K. is very time consuming because of the time you spend checking in and travelling to and from the airports and city centres; also the cheap headline air fares don't mention all the extra charges for check in, luggage etc You'll find the
rail network to be dense and frequent. I don't know what your interests are and January is not the best time for weather, but you obviously should visit London - 45 minutes travel time by train Cambridge to London Kings Cross; York just over 2 hours from Cambridge (change at Peterborough) and Edinburgh(Scotland) about 4 hours 30 minutes by train from Cambridge (Change at Peterborough). One of my favourite places in England is Ludlow (Shropshire) a beautiful small country town in the South Shropshire Hills. www.ludlow.org.uk

Western end of Essex is full of pretty villages, for instance Thaxted, Great Bardfield, the Rodings, Hatfield Broad Oak. You ought to be able to get around by bus fairly cheaply - some bus companies offer rover tickets (fixed price, travel as much as you like for 7 days).

Edinburgh is worth to visit. Should take the train rather than coach because it's quite far from Cambridge.
You should book early to get cheap price.
Do a fair check here http://nationalrail.co.uk
Check the schedule carefully, especially the time between changes. I once had to wait 6 hrs at night in Newcastle :(

travel in England is expensive especially the trains. Edinburgh is about 500 miles from Cambridge and further from Essex. I'd look at a map. Look on www.ryanair.com, www.easyjet.com for cheap air fares and look on www.nationalexpress.co.uk for buses.
