How do i get the Barcode for a Rover 620 remote control?

My car is N reg and has no remote control for the central locking/alarm.I purchased the correct one on E-bay but a Rover specialist tells me that they need a Barcode in order to code it to the vehicle and there isn't one.
In the car pack there is a "Key Fob Number" which relates to a National Key Protection Register.

If you have the key fob number then you should not need the barcode.
As far as I can remember you just unlock the drivers door with the key and press the dimpled button on the remote 4 times in quick succession to sync the fob to the car.
