Any cheap hotels near Union Station in Washington D.C.?

Can anyone recommend a hotel in that area which is reasonably priced and safe? I've been looking into it and everything I've found is really expensive (only staying for one night!).

There's not really anything in that immediate area that falls under most definitions of "reasonably priced" that I would recommend. If your search turns up something on New York Avenue, NE I would keep looking. There is a string of shady hotels along there that, while you'd be safe, are just... not very nice.

The good news is that Union Station has a metro stop in it so you can easily get to any part of the city where your options are more extensive. I would check out the Hotel Harrington near Metro Center. It's a good deal for the location and is only a few metro stops from Union Station.

The hotels in the area can be outrageously expensive, I know. One trick is to stay on the weekend when rates are as much as 50% lower. Also, go to the AAA.com website. AAA rates hotels and keeps tabs on the quality and safety. You don't have to be a member to access the information. Don't settle for anything less than 2 stars.

Next, gather the names of the hotels that suit you and check them out on Hotels.com and then call the hotel directly. Sometimes they have specials and will book you into a room at a reduced cost.

The problem with asking us who live here is that we don't stay in the hotels. We can recommend the decor, quality of the food and how the wedding reception was...not much help to you, I'm afraid.

there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it's very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

Well, it really depends on when you want to go -- rates can vary dramatically based on the time of year, activities in the city during a particular time, etc.

So, do you have exact dates in mind?
