2 days in Shannon - I know nothing?

Question

I have family visiting soon from overseas and they want to spend 2 days in Shannon. I have sorted out the flights but have no idea whatsoever as to what they can see in 2 days and what sort of area to look for a hotel. They just want a feel for the place and are more into scenery than city stuff. Any ideas?

Sligo is not to far away and is very nice.

Also, a river cruise down the shannon is quite special

Shannon itself is just a town that grew up around the airport, and there's really nothing of interest there.

Nearby, however, is Bunratty castle and folk park, which is worth a day. Shannon is in County Clare, which is famous for its coastline (the Cliffs of Moher) and the Burren.

Also nearby is Limerick city, which has several hotels, and the town of Ennis, which also has some hotels. Alternatively, you could look at Bed & Breakfast options, which are family-run enterprises, and can often give good tips on where to eat, where to go, etc.

Well bunratty is half way between shannon and limerick and most tourists go there for a day, they have a castle and all old fashioned cafe and bars, its a bit of a tourist trap but still worth seeing. They do banquet nights so it might be worth checking if they have one on when ur family come to stay.
