What order should I read the valdemar series in?

The Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey. Which order makes chronological sense in the history of Valdemar, not the order they were published

That's more complicated than you might think :) I suggest you go look inside one of them (any one) in the bookshop or library, because they all have a printed timeline in the front.

    Dear Reader,
I started out with the first book, about the young girl, Talia, who wanted to be a Herald, and who lived in an oppressive patriarchal society, and went from there. The books that follow Talia as she grows up are a natural sequence. There are books now that precede Talia's tale--but I would read Talia,s story first: it will give you some perspective on the timeline.
    I hope this helps...
    Sincerely,
    Tina
